#15 Dealing with Stress in a VUCA World

Welcome back to episode 15 and we have just hit 100 days for the podcast! A small step forward and I thank you all for your continued support. So, in today’s podcast I would like to discuss some ideas in how to deal with stress in a VUCA world. What is a VUCA world you may ask? VUCA means a world full of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. There is no doubt I think in anyone’s mind in 2020 with the onslaught of Covid-19 that so many people have been affected by feeling that the world around them has changed dramatically and has become volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous in so many ways. Let us first unpack a little these four terms. 1. Volatility has to do with the nature and dynamics of change, and the speed with which things change. 2. Uncertainty has to do with the lack of predictability, the increasing prospects of surprise, and the sense of awareness and understanding of issues and events (or the lack thereof). 3. Complexity has to do with the multiplex of forces, the confounding of issues and general confusion. 4. Ambiguity has to do with the haziness of reality, the potential for misreads and the mixed meanings of conditions.
